    UMTS is a standard for delivering a phone call or a Web page through the air. Most carriers using the world's most popular cell phone standard, called Global System For Mobile Communications (GSM), plan to use UMTS equipment to build telephone networks that have more capacity for calls and can create a wireless Internet service.
