SilverStream Software, developer of the SilverStream Web Application Platform, has received an equity investment from Intel Corporation. In addition, SilverStream will collaborate with Intel to optimize the performance of SilverStream's Java-based Web Application Platform on Intel Architecture servers. The SilverStream Web Application Platform enables developers to easily build and deploy Java-based and HTML business applications. The two companies also will engage in joint marketing activities.

Open-source software specialist Caldera International announced that Shoppers Drug Mart, Canada's largest pharmacy chain, will use Caldera's UnixWare 7 operating system combined with the company's Linux Kernel Personality and SilverStream Application Server software to coordinate computing services throughout the chain's 800 stores.
Also adopting the UnixWare 7 product is the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which will use the operating system and Caldera's ReliantHA 1.1 software to produce, track, catalog and manage all drivers' licenses issued by the state.
