Microsoft and International Network Services announced plans to form a strategic alliance centered around deployment of the software giant's Windows NT 4.0 and 5.0 operating system. INS plans to use NT as the preferred software for deployment of communications infrastructure, network management, and security, the company said. INS will establish an east and west coast center catering to Microsoft-related customer issues as part of the deal.
- Mon Aug 18 1997 Short Take: PC-Tel to support Windows NT 4.0
PC-Tel, maker of software-based modems, will support Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0. Designed for the company's PCT2881 and PCT 388 products, the software will operate at a rate of 33.6 kbps (PC-Tel intends to upgrade to 56 kbps once the ITU standard becomes available next year). The software's drivers, which enable the software to work with a variety of modems, will be available through the Web sites of PC-Tel or the original equipment manufacturers. The PC-Tel Windows 4.0 drivers will be available free of charge at the end of August.
