    Liberate Technologies said it has integrated Macromedia's Flash Player into its interactive TV software. Liberate said the streaming media company's player will enable developers to create applications and graphics for interactive TV on its software. Such applications include interactive programming guides and games.

    San Carlos, Calif.-based Liberate provides the software that enables people to play games or purchase products via interactive TV. The company said last June that its software was in use in more than 1.5 million set-top boxes as of May 31.

    Software developer Macromedia has signed a deal with WebSideStory, a Web site analytics company, to offer site developers a custom tool to track consumer interaction with sites built in Flash.

    Flash, an easy-to-use animation tool made by Macromedia, is one of the most widely used development applications for Web sites, advertisements and games, claiming such clients as Nike, MSNBC and Virgin Records. The deal allows Web developers to use WebSideStory's HitBox Professional tool to monitor how often sites build in Flash and Macromedia's Dreamweaver tool are viewed, as well as how visitors interact with content and ads in real time. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Allaire this week is previewing the Flash toolkit, code-named Harpoon, at the company's developer conference in Washington, D.C. The toolkit is scheduled for a public beta test in December.
