    Symantec announced a new version of its VelociRaptor firewall and virtual private network (VPN) appliance. VelociRaptor provides an integrated hardware and software system to allow secure remote access to business data.

    The new version is available in three models for businesses of various sizes and network connection speeds. "Small and medium businesses, ISPs and branch offices of large corporations often don't have the dedicated security resources of larger businesses, although they still require a high level of network security," Barry Cioe, director of product management at Symantec, said in a statement.

    Cisco Systems announced a new series of routing devices adapted for virtual private networks, or VPNs. The new 7100 series of routing hardware includes tunneling, data encryption, security, firewall, advanced bandwidth management, and service level checking features. Cisco also announced a new PIX 515 firewall appliance that can handle up to 125,000 concurrent connections, new PIX firewall features, and a VPN client. The new routing devices will be available in July.
