Storability, a start-up that tries to simplify high-end storage systems for its customers, has named John Rando chairman and Tim Leisman as president and chief executive. Rando had been senior vice president of the services division of Digital Equipment, then of Compaq Computer when it acquired Digital.
Leisman, who was senior vice president of Compaq's outsourcing organization and most recently was CEO of Infinite Content, a business software company, replaces founder Matthew Westover, who will remain on the board and work on the company's strategy, Storability said.

ZixIt, which offers Internet encryption and other security products and services, has named John Ryan its chief executive. Ryan, 45, was previously chief executive of Entrust Technologies, another Internet security and encryption company. Ryan replaces David Cook, who assumes the title of founder. Former Chairman Jeff Papows becomes co-vice chairman of the board.
Publicly traded ZixIt won attention last year with its deal to supply portal giant Yahoo with encryption technology for its Web-based e-mail system.

Continuing an executive makeover at the company, networking software provider Novell on Friday announced the appointment of Debra Bergevine as chief marketing officer, a newly created position at the company.
Bergevine was formerly with Foliage Software Systems, a custom software development and integration company, and has a 20-year history in technology marketing and business, according to the company. She will be responsible for Novell's strategic direction and marketing initiatives. Bergevine will report to Chris Stone, the recently installed vice chairman, the office of the chief executive officer, and will be based in Cambridge, Mass.

H. Brian Thompson, a longtime telecommunications industry executive, will be appointed as one of two outside members on the Williams Communications board of directors when the company goes public. Thompson, formerly of MCI Communications and LCI International, resigned as vice chairman of Williams competitor Qwest Communications International last year to join Global TeleSystems Group.

Tandem Computers announced Enrico Pesatori as president and chief operating officer. Pesatori, former general manager of Digital Equipment's computer systems division, will be responsible for the daily operations, business units, and worldwide sales and marketing. Roel Pieper, chief executive and former president, will continue to have the finance and legal departments report to him. He will also now assume the title of vice chairman and board director. Pesatori is the tenth executive hired since Pieper came aboard in January.

Data Systems Network (DSNC) of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and SofTech announced the sale of SofTech's Network Systems Group is complete. In exchange for the ongoing business, certain assets and liabilities, DSNC paid $900,000 in cash and 540,000 shares of stock. The network group had a gross revenue of $30 million for the 1996 fiscal year. DSNC provides network integration services. SofTech announced John J. McDonough as CEO, replacing John I. Jellinek, who has been named vice chairman. A.J.R. Oosthuizen has been named president and COO.
