Standard Media International has said that former CNET Networks executive Richard J. Marino will take over as the San Francisco-based company's chief executive. Founding CEO John Battelle will relinquish that title but remain chairman of the board for the 4-year-old company, which publishes 10 international editions of its flagship weekly magazine, a Web site, daily and weekly newsletters, and online reports.
In almost two years at San Francisco-based CNET, publisher of News.com, Marino held positions of president and chief operating officer. He was a key player in last year's acquisition and assimilation of ZDNet. Before CNET, Marino spent nine years at IDG's PC World, ascending to president and CEO.
