Micro Express says it has begun shipping a full-featured 166-MHz Pentium notebook with 12.1-inch active matrix display, CD-ROM, and a large hard drive for $3,299.
Micro Express, a small but relatively well-known PC vendor, is targeting the new NP1266 notebook at users who need to do multimedia presentations on the road and has built in a video output for use with available TV monitors. The unit also has 16-bit stereo sound and built-in stereo speakers.
Other features include 24MB of RAM and 256K of L2 cache, a 1.3GB hard drive, a 6X CD-ROM drive, and a 33.6-kbps modem. The unit also has a built-in IrDA infrared communications module and a Type III and Type II PC Card slot.
The NP1266 uses a desktop version of Intel's Pentium chip, which generally uses more power than the mobile version of the same processor.
